An idea for a reason for this blog has been hatched!

...but it's one of those ideas that seems good right now, but might get frickin difficult as each day passes by in this day-by-day blog thing where I blog the things about what's happening in 39 days every day, for 39 days.
Once this ends there will be the dilemma of what to do next, but that will be resolved by the fact that I probably won’t finish it anyway. I'm kind of flagging here as it is.

At a work's Christmas party, in between gathering streamers from party poppers to put in my hair, I remember two of my colleagues asking me if my upcoming trip to the USA was really a one-way affair, to which I candidly said yes. I remember how happy they were, and how drunk I was. They had the pleasure of daily updates on my transatlantic relationship and made the best attempt to appear genuinely interested.

This was in 2002 and that was bollocks, cos although I'd decided to move there, we hadn't even started the paperwork, and when we did we ended up changing our minds and my wife to be decided to take Scotland on first. Brave move.

So that's really when the move started, and ever since it has bee lying dormant, like a volcano of emigration. Six years passed, with an amazing son joining us along the way, and when my absolute hatred for my job combined partly with Cassie's homesickness and the increasing need for us to look after her grandparents, saw us make the decision to bugger of to the USA........then some family upheaval put those plans to bed for another year.

However, after many false starts the visa process started in January 2009, and on Tuesday 6th October 2010 I finally booked my tickets and will finally arrive in Tennessee as a US permanent resident on Tuesday 16th November.

Most of the next 38 posts will contain what happened in between!
